Hanane Essaydi is a professor in the Department of French Language and Literature at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities in Marrakesh, Morocco. Specialization: Frncophone African literatures and cinema/postcolonial studies/decolonial studies/ecocriticism.
She is the author of a thesis on “Irony in the Frncophone African novel”. She has published several articles in collective works: “Quelques aspects de l’humour et de l’ironie dans l’adaptation cinématographique de Xala d’Ousmane Sembène”, in Rira bien… Humour et ironie dans les littératures et le cinéma francophones ; “Quelques aspects du postmodernisme littéraire dans le roman africain subsaharien francophone”, in Le postmodernisme dans le roman africain ; “Corps handicapé, corps marginal dans le cinéma africain”, in Le Corps au cinéma, which she co-edited ; “Allah n’est pas obligé, un roman picaresque?” in La Question du picaresque dans la littérature africaine, théories et pratiques, study compiled by Bidy Cyprien BODO.
She participated in the Ateliers de la Pensée de Dakar (2nd and 4th editions), initiated by Achille Mbembe and Felwine Sarr.
She is the Vice-president of the WE ART AFRICA Association and one of the four co-founders of the Marrakesh African Book Festival (FLAM).
Currently, Her research interests focus on What place does African literature give to nature? How does the African novel represent our relationship to the natural world? It attempts to explore the relationship between literature and ecology from an ecopoetic perspective, in the texts of African writers such as Ben Okri, Abdellatif Laabi, Nuruddin Farah, Annie Lulu, Imbolo Mbue, Abdourahman Waberi, Ken Saro Wiwa…
