Dr. Sumayya Ahmed earned her PhD in Information Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where her research focused on archival records and historical manuscripts in Morocco. She holds an MA in Contemporary Arab Studies from Georgetown University and a BA in Sociology and African-American Studies from Wesleyan University. She also held a US Fulbright Research Grant for Research in Morocco in 2007 and was the co-editor of the 2016 De Gruyter volume, Library and Information Science in the Middle East and North Africa. Her research interests are documentary heritage in North Africa and the Middle East, the societal provenance of historical manuscript collections, and the politics of cultural heritage preservation.
Dr. Ahmed is currently an Assistant Professor in Archives at the Simmons University’s School of Library and Information Science.
