Adib Bencherif is an Assistant Professor in political science at the University of Sherbrooke. He served as a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Sahel Research Group (SRG) at the University of Florida (2019-2021). He completed his PhD in Political Science at the University of Ottawa in 2019. His research explores the relations between nomadic communities and state authorities in the Sahel and North Africa, with a focus on the narratives of Tuareg political elites. He also analyzes internal political dynamics among Tuareg communities. Adib has published several peer-reviewed articles and chapters in edited volumes in French and in English, notably in the Canadian Journal of African Studies, Cahiers d’études africaines and Politique africaine. Advocating for applied social sciences, he teaches courses on political risk analysis, Middle East and Africa. He is also a consultant in conflict analysis and conflict resolution, using narratives approaches. He co-edited (with Frédéric Mérand) a book on political risk analysis (Presses de l’Université de Montréal, 2021).
Adib is also Research Fellow with the SRG at the University of Florida, the UNESCO-PREV Chair at the University of Sherbrooke and the Centre FrancoPaix of the Chaire Raoul-Dandurand for diplomatic and strategic studies at the University of Québec in Montréal (UQAM).
