Chenise Calhoun is a doctoral student in the French and Francophone Studies department at Tulane University. Some of her research interests include postcolonial literature, Moroccan dynastic history, transnational feminism and black feminism. She is particularly researching cultural, historic and ethnic connections between the Maghreb and West Africa through literature.
Additionally, Chenise is a researcher with the organisation LifexCodes based at John Hopkins University; She transcribes, translates and catalogues–by keyword–18th century documents from the French Superior Council where black and brown folk are mention. She is a Mellon fellow with Diaspora Solidarities Lab, bridging community in New Orleans via the digital space with Black Louisiana Incubators.
